This Classic Period Mayan terracotta pot, with its nobleman's visage, ls a remarkable relic, evoking the grandeur of ancient Mayan civilization. The serene expression and refined modeling of the face reftect the Mayan aesthetic appreciation and their skill in terracotts. This piece lkaly had a ceremonial function, holding offerings to the gods of the remains of a distinguished individual. The presence of the nobleman's face on the pot would have signified high status, serving both as a tribute and a marker of social hierarchy within Mayan culture. Very well preserved, I believe that it was made in such a way where it was intended to be a cup, or a pot with the top of it actually being open. There are some minor chips to it, but overall it has been very well preserved over the years. Take a look at all the photos to see general condition and dimensions. Came from a private collection of pre-Colombian pottery.
