Condition:

The 1956 football 5-cent wrappers come in both a dark green “wax” wrapper and a “cello” wrapper variation that

looks the same except it is lighter green in color and uses a much more fragile “cello” type wrapper product. This

offered wrapper is the rare “cello”/light green variation. There was a football wrapper catalog produced about 30

years ago where the author claims there were only about 5 of these reported to exist that that time. I have no idea

how many are known today but I can say I have only seen one sell on eBay over the last 3 years. This wrapper has

the ”Pesty Cowboy Cartoon” side panel variation. I have been a serious wrapper collector and dealer for 35+ years

and this is the first one of these I have ever owned. It has wear and subtle tears at the two bottom card corner points

and a ”V” shaped nick near the last “L” in the word Football. Notwithstanding these imperfections, the wrapper looks

really nice and has been well preserved and has amazingly survived in super nice overall condition given its fragility.

It is remarkable it was not torn up a bit when it was originally opened. These rare and obscure wrappers do not come

along often, and it represents a nice opportunity add to a great 1956 football card collection and any high-end

vintage wrapper collection.
