THE BIC STORY
1944 - Marcel Bich ( 1914-1994 ) and Edouard Buffard ( 1908-1966 ), purchase a factory in Clichy France, ans set up business as a manufacturer of writing instrument parts.
1950 - They believe in the potential of the Ballpoint pen, they adapt and improve the Ballpoint invented by the Hungarian Laszlo Biro, and in December the BIC CRISTAL is created. The quality and affordable price of the pen means it was was an immediate success.
1951 - Bic establish a presence in Belgium the first step outside of France.
1952 - Bic participates in the Tour De France in the Publicity caravan for the first time, this continues to this day.
1954 - Bic establish a presence in Italy, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Spain.
1956- Bic establish a presence in Brazil, in 1960 they build a factory in São Paulo helping with their expansion in to South America.
Also the Bic M10 Clic retractable Ballpoint is launched, expanding there range of pens.
1957 - Bic acquire Biro Swan in the UK, then creating a presence in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
1959-1960 - Bic establish a precense in the Scandinavian market, Africa and the Middle East.
1961 - Raymond Savignec creates the Bic Logo. He creates a little boy with a Ballpoint for a head, then places the boy next to the letters BIC, the Logo is still in place today. CHECK YOUR PENS!!
1965- Bic establish a presence in Japan.
1969 - Bic Graphic is created.
1970 - Bic 4 Colour is created.
1972 - Bic is listed on the Paris stock exchange.
1973 - Bic Diversifies and create the pocket lighter, which becomes an immediate success.
Bic enters in to Mexico.
1975 - Bic become the first brand to create the One-Piece razor.
1979- Bic acquire Conte, a famous 200 year old brand of Drawing and colouring pencils.
1981 - Again Bic Diversifies by manufacturing and selling Water Sport Products, under the BIC SPORTS BRAND.
1992 - Bic acquire an American company called Wite-Out, famous in Correction products.
1993 - Bic Evolution is created.
1995 - Bic opens Bic Polska, followed by Bic Russia, helping the expansion in Eastern Europe.
1997 - Bic adds Tipp-Ex to its portfolio.
2002 - Bic launches multi-purpose lighters.
Bic launches its sustainability program.
2004- Bic acquires Stypen, a fountain pen manufacturer in France.
Bic launch the Soleil Razor.
2006- Bic acquires Pimaco a manufacturer of Labels in Brazil.
2009- Bic sets up business with Cello in India, the No 1 Brand of writing instrument in India. They go on to purchase Cello in Full in 2015.
