Here's a mic you don't see every day. In fact...I've never even come across this S-7 model before and I believe it's a military issue item though I could be wrong? You are looking at a rare and unique 1940's era Electro Voice dynamic microphone.
The A-7 as seen in pic # 2 was an Civil Aeronautics model built for airport landing control but I believe this was used and built for the military initially during W.W II. Once the war was over I think they targeted the civilian market instead of discontinuing the the model right away and was rebadged from the S-7 to A-7.
You'll notice right away that the head of the mic is somewhat similar to the E.V 630 model but has a completely different front grill looking a bit more industrial and this mic with attached stand has an original flat black paint scheme. Again, I believe this was a specialized dispatch mic for military or law enforcement units only.
This mic is in decent physical condition considering it's age as seen in the pictures provided. The paint shows heavy wear in the form of chips, scratches and scuff marks but the mic is free of any corrosion or dents. Not too bad overall. It has all of it's original components inside and out. I did test the element from inside the housing and it still works though a bit on the weak side. The mic could be rewired if you know the correct diagram from within but the way the cable is currently wired it's not working.
The mic has good tension in the joint mechanism and you'll notice a "push to talk" button on the stem. It still works but may need to be rewired. The E.V badge looks pretty good and the stand looks pretty good as well. It comes with a rubber boot that slides over the internal wires that you can see in pic # 12. The stand has a short 6 inch cable with a period male 1/4 inch connector.
If you are a serious collector of vintage Americans mics then you know what a unique mic this is. She'll make an awesome display piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office. Might make a great prop piece for a 1940's movie.
Total height of mic is appx 12 inches.
And as always...
