Inlay art is a captivating form of craftsmanship that primarily utilizes marble, similar to the exquisite decorations found in the Taj Mahal and other Mughal monuments. This traditional art form is carefully preserved, with only a handful of skilled artisans currently practicing it. The intricate process begins with the manual cutting and engraving of marble shapes.
 
Initially, a predefined pattern, such as floral or geometric designs, is etched onto a marble slab with the help of Henna. Small pieces of marble in various shades are then meticulously cut to fit precisely into these engraved grooves. A wide range of colored stones can be employed in marble inlay work, including malachite, carnelian, jasper, mother of pearl, abalone shell, lapis lazuli, agate, coral, turquoise, and tiger's eye, among others.
 
Each groove is filled with its corresponding piece of colored stone, secured in place using a whitety composed of oil and wax. Once the design has dried completely, the piece is polished with a mixture of sand, water, and emery paper to achieve a shiny, smooth finish. While marble is the primary medium, various other materials may also be used in this intricate art form.
