VW / Audi 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen3 Coil Pack Grounding Kit (8K0971994 Plug)

A common issue on the EA888 Gen3 engines is the OEM grounding setup for the coil packs, which in standard configuration utilises the coil pack mounting bolt to secure a small ground wire for each plug. In addition, the OEM bolts are triangulated and are not ideal for repeated use.

Whenever the coils are removed, the OEM ground wires are disturbed and if just one of these is not secured correctly, a variety of issues can arise such as lumpy idle, retarded timing reducing performance, and in some scenarios, misfires and engine lights on the dashboard. The constant flexing of these wires during routine servicing can also cause internal fractures that are impossible to see.

This grounding kit addresses all of these problems and provides a coil grounding solution that not only restores the coil ground wiring setup to its optimum performance, but also provides a setup that ensures the ground wiring is not disturbed each time the coils are removed.

The replacement harness also provides two grounding locations. One on the rocker cover and a secondary point on the chassis of the car; eliminating ground loop interferences and also provides a secondary engine block grounding point.

Our kit comes with everything needed to install including a 3-piece de-pinning key set, 4x replacement stainless coil pack bolts and cable ties to secure the harness in place. Upon request, we can also provide detailed fitting instruction via email after purchase.

Although installation is relatively straightforward, professional installation is recommended.

IMPORATANT– this kit is for cars fitted with coil plugs with the part number 4D0971994 which are typically fitted to post 2016 cars. You can check which plugs you have by inspecting the underside of your coil plugs.
