Up for sale is a Remarkable RARE Antique Architectural floor plan Sketch of M.I.T , Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston of the Ornithology Museum building. By Architecture student F L Van Zelm, this piece is sign and dated April 13, 1917. We believe that this impressive Sketched art is a submission for van Zelm’s Architecture studies / course work as he was a student of MIT at the time. This piece is signed by Van Zelm, marked 1/16 th inch scale and provides an MIT stamp in the bottom corner that reads Department of Architecture M-I-T Boston second Year.” please see pictures for a closer look.

A little background on the Artist. Louis Franklin van Zelm was a dailies comic strip cartoonist was born in New Rochelle, New York, 1895, attending MIT university in 1917. During the 1920s he contributed cartoons to the Larchmont Gazette, drew comic Such Is Life and he drew the strip Rusty and Bub for New York Evening World. Then in late 1930s early 40s van Zelm's collaborated with Darwin J. Adams on a children's book called The Adventures of Monte and Molly and was also an illustrator for the Christian Science Monitor, where he produced propaganda cartoons. In the late 1940s Zelm became the owner of the Summit Spring Hotel and water bottling company and is credited with redesigning the label to include the ICONIC eagle.

This Sketch is on large paper. Condition is excellent considering its age, paper shows light wear and some discoloration, please see detailed pictures for a closer look at condition.
