Applying Paint to Your 190 Micron Stencil Designs

1. Prepare Your Surface:

   • Choose a clean, smooth surface for your stenciling. Ensure it's free of dust or oils for the best results.

2. Position the Stencil:

   • Use painter’s tape or stencil adhesive spray to hold the stencil firmly in place. Make sure it’s flat against the surface to avoid paint seepage.

3. Select Your Paint:

   • Use a paint that works well for stenciling, like acrylics or fabric paints. For finer details, you may also use spray paint or ink.
   • Tip: If using spray paint, make sure to spray from a distance to avoid overspray. If using a brush or sponge, choose a foam brush or a stencil brush for more control.  Also consider applying extra masking around the edges to make your life easier.  Newspaper would do fine!
     

4. Apply the Paint:

   • For Brush or Sponge: Lightly dip the brush or sponge into the paint, then offload excess paint onto a paper towel. This prevents dripping and ensures a cleaner stencil application. Lightly dab or stipple the paint onto the stencil, working in layers.   Take your time - thin layers - let them dry and repeat until you have the contrast you want (don't move the stencil when letting the paint dry)
     
   • For Spray Paint: Hold the can about 6-8 inches away from the stencil and spray in light, even layers. Always spray in a consistent motion to avoid pooling paint.  Less is more!
     

5. Remove the Stencil:

   • Carefully lift the stencil away from the surface after your last coating before the paint dries completely to avoid smudging. If you're using a fine brush or sponge, you can also lift one corner of the stencil to check progress before fully removing it.

6. Let It Dry:

   • Allow the paint to dry completely before handling. This prevents smearing.

Cleaning Your Micron Stencils for Reuse

1. Remove Excess Paint:

   • Gently scrape off any wet paint from the stencil using a plastic scraper or your fingers. Be careful not to tear the stencil,
     
   • Our stencil material is strong but still be careful
     

2. Wash the Stencil:

   • For Acrylic Paints: Rinse the stencil under warm water, gently rubbing with a soft sponge or cloth to remove the paint. You can use mild dish soap for tougher spots. Avoid using harsh abrasives, as they can scratch the stencil.
   • For Spray Paint: You can clean spray paint with a solvent like rubbing alcohol or a specialized cleaner to ensure all paint residue is removed.

3. Drying:

   • Pat the stencil dry with a soft cloth or allow it to air dry completely before storing. This prevents moisture from causing mold or deterioration.

Storing Your Stencils for Reuse

1. Flat Storage:

   • Store your stencils flat to prevent bending or warping. You can place them back in the wallet we provided
     

2. Avoid Extreme Temperatures:

   • Keep your stencils in a cool, dry place.
     

3. Keep Them Clean:

   • After drying, make sure there’s no residual paint or dust on the stencils before storing them.

4. Organize by Design:

   • If you have multiple stencils, consider labeling them or organizing them in a folder by design, size, or type to make it easy to find and use them again.
