Microvision Pico Projector RGB Laser Display Engine Osram PL530 PL450B HL63603TG

Microvision Pico Projector RGB Laser Display Engine Osram PL530 PL450B HL63603TG

These assemblies were made to be the heart of a Microvison ShowWX Plus laser-based video projector. The light engine has red, green and blue lasers combined with dichroic mirrors into a single beam that is routed to a resonant scanner mechanism which was used to output video. I don't have any information about the electronics or the resonant scanner, but the laser engine is well understood. It contains:

  • Red - Ushio HL63603TG 638nm 120mW diode laser
  • Green - Osram PL530 530nm 50mW OPSL laser
  • Blue - Osram PL450B 450nm 80mW diode laser

Datasheets for these lasers are easy to find on the web. The red and blue diode lasers are single transverse mode type which produce a high quality (small diameter, low divergence) beam and with careful control of temperature and current, can be made to operate single longitudinal mode. The green laser is an amazingly tiny OPSL (optically pumped semiconductor laser) which also produces a high quality single mode beam and typically runs single longitudinal mode with a linewidth narrow enough for holography. It has a small heater inside to control the SHG temperature so it needs a constant voltage at about 1.8 - 2.8V for the heater as well as a 450 mA diode driver for the 808nm pump diode inside. I can provide a pinout for the mezzanine connector and a part number for the mating connector.

The laser light engine is tiny - about 43mm long, 22mm wide and 7mm tall. I can provide a partial pinout for the 40 pin mezzanine connector on the flex PCB which can be used to connect to the laser diodes, a thermistor for temperature sensing and 3 photodiodes that can be used to monitor the power of the individual lasers. With some care, the mating connector can be recovered from the electronics PCB.

I opened one of these up to show the insides but you will receive a new, sealed module.

About Us

We are a small company located in the heart of Silicon Valley. We specialize in surplus lasers and photonics and have an optics lab with many instruments such as power meters, laser diode drivers and optical spectrum analyzers. Combined with our considerable expertise, this allows us to test most of the items we sell so you can be confident that they will arrive in good working condition.

FDA Disclaimer for Laser Components This product is sold solely for use as a component (or replacement) in an electronic product; therefore it is not required to, and does not comply with, 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 which pertain to complete laser products. The manufacturer of the complete system-level electronic product is responsible for complying with 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 and for providing the user with all necessary safety warnings and information.

Payment and Sales Tax

Order payments are handled by eBay Managed Payments which allows a variety of option such as credit, debit, and gift cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and PayPal Credit. We accept Purchase Orders from accredited Universities but generally require pre-payment. Please note that sales tax is collected by eBay, not by us. If you are purchasing for resale, you need to have your reseller certificate on file with eBay before placing your order.

Shipping

Most orders ship within 24 hours of payment. We take pride in our careful packing of delicate items. In the unlikely case that you receive an item which has been damaged in shipping, please hang on to the packing material and contact us. We will file a damage claim with the shipper and start the process of getting you a replacement or a refund.

Warranty

Items we sell on eBay do not include any warranty unless otherwise specifically stated in the listing. We do guarantee that the items we sell will be delivered in the condition described in the listing. If you have a problem with your purchase, please get in touch and we'll do our best to resolve it.
