It's one of those areas where another kind of material is going through the stone, just like the tan on the bottom of one tail and on the top of one head. Please remember that some stones have "cracks" going through them and they don't affect the item, they are natural. I try to say if there are small chips, most of these kinds of pieces have tiny flea bite size chips and I just call that normal wear. It is also hard sometimes to tell exactly what kind of stone it is, I try to go by what everyone else is saying.
