This two-euro coin, issued by Cyprus in 2024, celebrates the 20th anniversary of Cyprus’ accession to the European Union. In 2004, ten countries, including Cyprus, joined the EU. This commemoration highlights the strategic importance of Cyprus in the Union.

The obverse of the coin features a stylized representation of Cyprus, evoking dynamism and growth through vertical lines. In addition, a map of Europe in the background illustrates the integration of Cyprus into the EU. The inscriptions “2004-2024” mark these two decades. Around the central design, the twelve stars of the EU symbolize unity and harmony among the Member States. Furthermore, the contrast between the nickel of the inner part and the brass of the outer part accentuates the details of the design, highlighting its visual and and symbolic importance.
