ELECTRIC CHOKE THERMOSTATS are an essential component of a vehicle’s carburetor system. It controls the idle speed by regulating the opening and closing of the butterfly valve on the carburetor. When the engine is cold, the thermostat keeps the valve closed which supplies a richer fuel mixture to the engine.

COMMON SIGNS OF A FAILING ELECTRIC CHOKE THERMOSTAT:

Engine will not start when cold: If the electric choke thermostat fails to close when the engine is cold, it can cause difficulty in starting the engine.
Stalling: If the electric choke thermostat fails to open when the engine is warm, it can cause the engine to stall.
Hesitation during warm-up: If the electric choke thermostat fails to open gradually as the engine warms up, it can cause hesitation during acceleration.
