Twin and Earth Electrical Cable is the most common cable used for domestic wiring.  We have 6 sizes available that are suitable for different uses, some common uses of each size are described below.  This cable has met all the industry and governmental safety guidelines and standards for cables, including the BS 6004:2012 standard.  It is BASEC Approved.  It is UKAS Certified.  It is CE Marked.

Each cable is available in various predefined lengths, however if you wish to purchase a custom length please let us know and we would be happy to arrange this for you.

Cable Construction

The live and neutral are individually insulated and the earth is bare.  The Live and Neutral are insulated in blue/brown coloured PVC insulation.  The overall bundle of wires is insulated in a grey PVC outer casing.  The 1.5 mm and 2.5 mm cables have a solid copper conductive wire construction whereas the 4 mm, 6 mm, 10 mm and 16 mm cables are constructed of stranded copper conductive wires.

Common Cable Uses

1.5 mm is most commonly used for lighting circuitry and switches.

2.5 mm is most commonly used for ring mains, plug and socket wiring. 

4 mm is most commonly used for high power ring mains, plug and socket wiring.

6, 10 and 16 mm are most commonly used for high powered small appliances such as cookers.

Safety information

This cable is suitable for indoor use only.  It is not suitable for use outdoors as UV light can degrade the insulation coating.

3 CORE AND EARTH 6243Y

3 Core and earth power and lighting electrical cable (6243Y) is available in 1.0mm and 1.5mm only.

This cable has three conductors which are colour coded as grey, black, and brown and an earth bare copper wire.  The sheath is Grey PVC.

One of the main uses for this cable is when two way lighting is required as this provides the additional conductor between two switches operating on the same light fitting.  This is also used in central heating wiring. 

1mm Cable has a 12 Amp Maximum Rating

1.5mm Cable has a 16 Amp Maximum Rating

This is a flat cable leaving it easier to install in plaster work.

This cable is BASEC Approved and conforms to BS6004.
