All places have their own legends, and Filgaia is no exception. Legends speak of a Blaze of Disaster that stained Filgaia with its flames and threatened to destroy the planet itself. But all was not lost. The Guardian Blade Argetlahm called to a young girl born to a noble family, and she became the Sword Magess. With the Guardian Blade and the Guardian of Desire, Lucied, the Sword Magess fought the Blaze of Disaster on an equal footing. Wild Arms 2 is the sequel to one of the PlayStation's first American RPGs. Like the first game, Wild Arms 2 is set in the land of Filgaia. Although this game sports a new cast of characters and some historical revisionism, fans will have no trouble recognizing many elements of the first game's world. The game adopts a traditional role-playing style, with players leading a ragtag group of unlikely heroes through the 3D world completing quests, gaining experience, and generally doing good deeds while on their way to defeat the final bad guy. Wild Arms 2 does set itself apart with a few innovations, though. On the world map, players can use the search button to find gold, items and town locations. Players can also elect to evade some of the random enemy encounters in the game. Whenever the player's party is about to experience a monster encounter, a bubble with an exclamation point appears over their head. If the bubble is white with a black exclamation, players can avoid the battle by pressing the O button
