Rima was originally a character in W. H. Hudson's 1904 novel Green Mansions, making her the first forest-dwelling character in fiction. The story is about a man named Abel who falls in love with Rima, a strange birdlike woman who is eventually destroyed by the superstitious Aboriginals.
