ABOUT THE ARTIST Alexandre CHARPENTIER (1856-1909). French Medallist, pupil and assistant of Ponscarme at École des Beaux-Arts. He first exhibited, at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1879, several medals and small figures, and again in 1881, 1882 and 1883. His first large bas-relief exhibited at the 1870 Salon : “Tireur à l’Arc”, was bought by Alexandre Dumas. In 1889 his monumental bas-relief “Les Boulangers” was applauded by Rodin.
