The Sharpie story

Sanford Ink Company were established in 1857 by Frederick W. Redington and William H. Sanford in Worcester Massachusetts.

In 1866 the company relocated to Chicago which was to be the catalyst for bigger and better things. Starting producing and selling ink and glue products they started trading.

Moving forward between 1930 - 1964 Sanford continued to produce and sell Quality products, strong distribution network meant the company continued to prosper even through the Great Depression.

1964 Sanford turned its focus on the emerging marker business, the SHARPIE was born. This became the first pen style permanent marker.

1979 Sanford introduce a new SHARPIE the Extra Fine nib, also introducing 4 new colours.

1990 Sanford ( SHARPIE ) was acquired by the NEWELL brand of companies ( Later known as NEWELL RUBBERMAID ). Soon after SHARPIE had a huge boost, the Memorabilia Industry went crazy, everyone wanted Autographs, celebrities wanted to give Autographs, WHAT DID THEY ALL USE, SHARPIES!!

1997-2002 Another 6 different SHARPIES were introduced and many more exciting colours. In 2002 SHARPIE became the TITLE SPONSOR OF NASCAR.

2005 Another 6 SHARPIES were introduced and 12 more exciting colours ( MAKING 24 COLOURS NOW AVAILABLE ). One of these being the SHARPIE MINI, a smaller marker with a clip for attaching to a key chain, lanyard and more. Also the range of Accent highlighters were repositioned and placed under the Sharpie brand.

2006 Sharpie introduced the RETRACTABLE permanent marker, they also introduced a large range of PAINT markers.

As of 2011, 200 million sharpies had been sold worldwide.

Sharpie markers are manufactured in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, Maryville and Tennessee, and with numerous off-shore partners globally. Their headquarters are in Atlanta Georgia.

Present time SHARPIE have a wide range of markers, ORIGINAL, TWIN TIP, RETRACTABLE, METALLIC, STANDARD PERMANENT MARKERS and more. All the above are available in a variety of nibs, ULTRA FINE, EXTRA FINE, FINE, MEDIUM, BROAD, TWIN TIP, BRUSH, RETRACTABLE, CHISEL and BULLET. They have also started to produce ROLLERBALL and GEL pens including the S.GEL, and a range of highlighters.

Sharpie has now firmly placed itself at the top of the list of companies producing permanent markers and writing instruments.

Strong Aluminium metallic silver barrel, heavy duty cap this is RIDGED for better handling, it is weighted to prevent it from rolling. On the cap is a stylish strong plastic pocket clip, giving you the option to secure your pen to a shirt or trouser pocket, a tool box and much much more.

The unique ink is quick drying meaning you will get no smears or smudges, also making these ideal for left handers. Also the ink is fade resistant and water resistant, Xylene free and Toluene free, also low odour.

Because of the unique ink these will mark on Wet, Oily, Dusty and abrasive surfaces, and will still operate in extreme working conditions.

These markers have a cap off time of 30 Minutes, after that more than likely your marker will dry out, ALWAYS REPLACE THE CAP!
