Thank you for viewing this item! This high-quality, life-sized Saber-Tooth Tiger skull replica boasts exceptional detail, weight, and texture that closely resembles the real fossilized bone. Ideal for collectors, educators, and prehistoric enthusiasts, this model provides a tangible connection to one of the most famous prehistoric predators.
Smilodon is an extinct genus of felids and one of the best-known saber-toothed predators of the Pleistocene epoch. Despite its nickname, the “saber-toothed tiger” is not closely related to modern tigers or cats, belonging instead to the extinct Machairodontinae subfamily. Smilodon lived in the Americas from roughly 2.5 million to 8,200 years ago. Fossils from the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles represent the largest collection of specimens for this genus. Three species are recognized today: S. gracilis, S. fatalis, and S. populator, with the latter two likely descended from S. gracilis. The genus name means “scalpel tooth,” reflecting the iconic long, curved canine teeth of this apex predator.
