The pink (from French Pinque — flat-bottomed sailing boat; and in German Pinke — cargo ship) is a two- or three-mast sailing vessel with lateen gaff-sails or square sails. It was used since XVII century by the fleets of the maritime countries for reconnaissance and cruise operations. The draught is from 50 to 200 tons. It was armoured with the smooth-bore artillery of the calibre of 4—8 feet (up to 20 guns). It did not get the widespread use in the Navy, and even for the role of a ship for reconnaissance or as a light cargo ship it gave way to such types of ships as a chaloupe, a fleut or a yacht. In the list of the Russian Fleet the ships of this type appeared during the Northern War. Depending on their size, they could carry up to 38 guns. They were used for cargo delivering and delivering of foodstuffs and ammunition supplies to the ships of the flotillas and also reconnaissance and cruise operations. For the needs of the Russian Fleet the pinks were built till the 1780s, except for the one pink, which was built for the Caspian Flotilla in 1839.
