Choosing the right compound -

Sintered/Metallic:

Pros

Less fade at higher temperatures.
Perform better in wet conditions.
Longer lasting.
Better for heavier riders and steeper terrain.

Cons

Reduced Initial bite.
Can be a bit noisy.

Resin/Organic:

Pros

Quiet.
Better initial bite.

Cons

Tends to wear faster.
More prone to glazing under heavy, sustained braking.
Performance suffers in wet conditions.

Pro Tip: Leave your old pads in place and use a large flat screwdriver or small spanner to gently push your pistons back in before you replace your pads. Don't forget to bed-in your new pads before you go riding trails. Simply ride around with your brakes half on for a few minutes and pedal hard or do a few hard stops on a LEVEL SURFACE!
