An exceptional chess set pairing 4-inch rosewood Madrid pieces with a 24-inch Italian briarwood board – triple-weighted, richly detailed, and crafted to impress.

Our beautifully finished briarwood burl veneer board is presented at almost 24 inches (60 cm) in width, and is hand-made in Italy. The knotting and patterning of the deep yellow and red briarwood is simply enchanting to look at. Underneath the board, the lacquered veneer is mounted with felt pads to protect the board and other surfaces. To complete the set, we have added our beautiful, large 4-inch Madrid chessmen in rosewood, a deep brown that complements the dark red knots found in the board.

The Madrid Series chessmen are another fine example from The Regency Chess Company, finely crafted from graded rosewood and boxwood, triple weighted and with a baize base. This lovely design lends more detail than the standard Staunton look with a slight Byzantine feel. The double recess below the shank of each piece is highly distinctive and is one of the features that make this set so distinctive.

The knight has been expertly carved with an elegant yet aggressive pose, with the detailed carving showing its teeth and hair. The standard and quality of this set are extremely high. No compromise has been made in bringing you the finest chessmen available. The proportions are good, the balance of the pieces is excellent, and the final polishing of the wood has been done to an extremely high standard.
