Purchased as one of multiple lots at a business liquidation auction, for sale is 1 Fowler Trimos Height-Micrometer Gage, Metric, 300mm measurement range with 2uM accuracy per division.  Manufactured in Switzerland for Fowler's Trimos line of precision measurement tools.  The current generation of the Trimos instrument line starts at over $5,000 from Fowler (with the highest end model of the Trimos line going for over $20,000!), but for this older generation unit you have a chance to pick one up for a fraction of the cost.

Five of these units were acquired, separate listings will be made for each one.  You will receive this exact unit, as shown and as described.

NOTE: the main mm turnover/rest position is offset and does not land perfectly centered on the middle of the marker at the 00/100 point.  Instead the main mm rest mark sits on the left tip of the triangle marker (see picture).  Ideally it should be perfectly centered, though the device remains functional - just keep in mind what position represents the zero point for the mm wheel.

Instrument knob rotation action is light and smooth with one minor felt catch-position at the 65.8/100th mark on the uM resolution dial - the catch or feeling of a slight bump of resistance is felt only when operating the dial upwards in value at low speeds and is not felt when rotating the dial downwards in value.  This does not appear to impact device function and is simply noted as a quirk found during inspection.  Since I have noticed this effect on another of these devices, I think what I am feeling is part of the tick-over gearing for the mm wheel display.

Rotation adjustment ratio is 1 knob rotation per mm.

High stop point above positive 0 is 6.638mm as checked by slow and gentle adjustment.

Low stop point at table contact when upright is 4.584mm as checked by the same method (slow and gentle), low stop point when given room to allow further downward travel is 4.498mm (86 micrometers past where it would contact the table) - this most likely represents the results of prior calibration as well as the need to be re-calibrated.

Use note for these mechanical height micrometers: do not use force to attempt to adjust past a mechanical stop point, you will likely need to re-calibrate if you do so.  Excessive force may damage the instrument.

Hold screw works correctly on testing (tested by tightening between 13mm and 14mm at 00, 20, 40, 60 and 80 increment points on the uM-scale dial.  Use note for the hold screw: the hold screw is meant to hold a measured value against unintentional brushing against the adjustment knob, not to hard-lock the knob.  Do not attempt to forcefully adjust the knob when locked as you can weaken the hold screw contact surface.

Visible when looking at the underside of the gage base, this model has 3 sets of metal height graduations which (with face-plate disassembly) you can rotate between.  This is a feature so that if there is wear or damage to one of the metal height-indexing faces the tool can still be used by rotating to the next set of outward-facing surfaces.  Use note: doing this will require re-calibration.

The Fowler serial number for this unit is 2633.

In spite of how solid and heavy these height-micrometers are (and this model is particularly heavy), they are precision instruments and need to be moved and packed with due care.  You can rely on me to heavily and tightly pad and package these tools to make sure they arrive safe and sound.

Orders placed Sunday through Thursday will ship next day.  Orders placed on Friday or Saturday may not ship until Monday.  High value orders may ship with signature confirmation service.
