Datura Double Yellow (Datura Metel Chlorantha) is an ornamental, shrub-like plant (or short-lived perennial) to 200cm, featuring perfumed double or more yellow flowers and emerald green foliage. Datura will produce spiny/bumpy fruit capsules, from which you can harvest your own seeds if desired. All parts of this plant (like many common garden plants) are toxic if ingested.

Method - Sow direct or raise seedlings

Sow depth - 3-5mm

Season - Spring to Summer

Germination - Anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks @ 21-24C. Note that Datura germination is erratic and can take months. Often slightly loosening soil if nothing happens after 2-3 weeks and continuing the process, derives results.

Hardiness / Life cycle - Perennial

Plant spacing - 50cm

Plant height - up to 200cm

Position - Full sun, well-drained soil

Keep well watered.
Fertilise regularly over the growing season to encourage flowers.
Cut back errant stems, but otherwise you don’t need to prune this plant.
Staking may be necessary when the plant grows too quickly and has slender stems.
