It Can be used inbetween the cast ion intake and the alloy EGR spacer as Ford intended. You may want to run a gasket either side of it or use a thin film of sealer instead. 

This is a steel shim / Stainless steel shim This is designed is to protect the underside of the carburetor from hot carbonized gases rising up through the exhaust heat risers in the intake manifold.
