BLACK LED SILENCER
The main theme of this desk-table lamp is how to avoid overheating of the components. The base, made up of a chromed metal cylinder drilled at the ends, contains the light source and is covered by a ring with a shaped surface lacquered with anti-thermal paint.
The cavity thus formed favors the movement of the air for cooling, while the finned ring, inspired by automobile engines, prevents the light from escaping from the base and avoids hand contact with the hot cylinder, facilitating grip.
"They consider it the Mercedes of lamps, the symbol - comments Achille Castiglioni in an interview in 1970 - of new arrivals: perhaps because it has a base that looks like a column.
We did it like this certainly not with prestige in mind, but to create a cooling surface".
Base and reflector are completely independent: the reflector, a convex disc of white lacquered aluminum, is supported by the diffuser, an inverted transparent glass bell which, simply placed on the base cylinder, is easily adjustable, i.e. capable of concentrating the light on the table top in the desired area.
"With Taccia I designed a Tavolo reflector lamp - explains Achille Castiglioni again in "Casabella", in 1997 -, which did not resort to complicated mechanical devices: the glass hemisphere rests, in an absolutely free and easy to move way, on the finned cylindrical base".
Conceived in 1958, this indirect light Tavolo lamp was perfected in 1959 and illustrated in March of the same year at the IIIinois Institute of Design and at the Chicago Institute of Technology. Flos, interested in producing it in series, completed the studies of the definitive prototype between 1960 and 1961, starting its sale in 1962."
DESCRIPTION: Tavolo lamp with indirect and reflected light. Metal reflector painted in glossy white externally and matt white internally. Adjustable diffuser in mouth-blown transparent glass. Body in extruded aluminum painted matt black, anodized silver or anodized bronze. Base in nickel-plated metal. Electric cable useful length 220 cm with dimmer switch which guarantees the On-Off functions and 10-100% luminous flux regulation. Power supply on plug with interchangeable plugs.
