Sleeping Beauty turquoise comes from the historic Sleeping Beauty Mine near Globe, Arizona. The mine was named for the nearby mountain formation said to resemble a sleeping woman when viewed from a distance. The turquoise became internationally recognized for its distinctive clean blue color and its tendency to contain very little visible matrix.

Sleeping Beauty turquoise has been highly valued in jewelry because its naturally bright color creates a particularly clean and consistent appearance when cut into small calibrated beads such as those used in this necklace.

Turquoise has traditionally been associated with peace, serenity, protection, confidence, and personal balance. It is often referred to as a stone of purification and positive energy.
