Annand Smith & Co., token, Ref. Gray # 15, struck in 1849. This was Australia's first minted token. The obverse is all text showing "ANNAND SMITH & CO., FAMILY GROCERS, MELBOURNE". The words "FAMILY", and "GROCERS" are lightly struck, in low relief, so they are weak across the center. The reverse shows Britannia seated. It is struck with the original 1806 U.K. penny dies. The piece is nice medium to dark brown on both sides.
