You're bidding on Army Civil War soldier , a cast spelter,bronze color statue of a Civil War Union Sailor in the heat of battle. He stands on a battlefield in a combat pose, with a fixed stare.

The statue was made in a pair. One is "Army" Other is "Navy". Made by the Bradley & Hubbard Maufacturing Co., Meriden, CT. circa. 1890 - 1920. These statues were not made of bronze, rather made of spelter. [Spelter is a zinc–lead alloy that ages to resemble bronze, but is softer and has a lower melting point. The name can also refer to a copper–zinc alloy (a brass) used for brazing, or to pure zinc.

Bradley & Hubbard, of Meriden, CT, were at the forefront of high-quality cast iron, brass and bronze lamps and consumer products in the late 19th & early 20th century, and their lamps and decorative pieces are still highly collectible.

   This piece is a solid 7 lbs, 15", to tip of rifle barrel tall with 7 1/2" X 5" base dimensions and max width of about 7 1/2" and front-to-back depth of about 5 1/ 2".

For an item that is over a hundred years old, the statue is in very good condition. There are minor scratches, scuffs and dents.The statue has intricate details and is a great piece for collectors interested in militaria. It is an exquisite addition to any collection of Civil War-related item! In the last photo there are figures of a sailor and a soldier; the figurine of a sailor is sold as a separate lot.
