The red kangaroo is the largest marsupial, native to the dry inland regions of central Australia. This model represents a large male, known as a “boomer,” characterized by red-brown fur. Males can reach a total body length of up to 59 inches (1.5m), with an additional 39 inches (1m) of tail. Females, called “flyers,” have blue-grey fur and reach about 39 inches (1m) in body length plus 33 inches (85cm) in tail length.
Red kangaroos feed on shrubs, grasses, and flowering plants, often forming small groups called “mobs” consisting of females, young, and one or more males. Their remarkable leaping ability is enabled by specialized bone morphology and powerful tendons in the hind legs that store elastic energy for each hop—an efficient form of locomotion allowing speed and endurance with low energy cost.
This life-size two-part skull replica features separate cranium and jaw, with a realistic weight and texture that closely mimics the original bone.
