Vintage German
Papier Mache Easter Egg
11cm (No. 2)
Germany has a long history of using papier maché eggs to celebrate
Easter. From the late 1800s until the early 1930s, Germany exported
empty papier maché eggs to the United States and throughout Europe.
This example has the markings "Made in GDR" stamped inside, which probably dates to sometime after the Second World War. It is decorated with delightful cartoons of a duck family.
For added novelty, the egg has been filled with modern chick and flower Easter decorations, but could be filled with mini chocolate eggs or similar for a special Easter gift.
