Offered here as a lot are 2 Swedish folk art hand-printed wall hangings on a somewhat coarse cloth which looks like it could be hand-woven. A very light burlap or coarse linen. I suppose it could be a linen burlap; that makes sense. I don't see an attribution anywhere on the front or back. It would be nice to put a name to the maker or makers.
The original owner of these treasures was from Sweden and I'm certain bought them in Sweden (these are possibly Froso Handtryck Ab) back in the day and had them for decades.
One of these delightful things features a woman dressed in traditional attire giving a cat a bowl of milk, on the porch of a rugged looking cabin or house. The old-fashioned door latch is a convincing detail!
The other wall hanging features Swedish Tomten (a house gnome, or "Santa" elf), or children dressed as such, stuffing presents into a large bag. We can see the light in the middle of the room is decorated with festive greenery no doubt in celebration of a "God Jul".
There is really something about the contrast of the earthtones used in the backgrounds to the vivid reds, browns, blacks and whites of the characters and key details. Another detail I notice is how the maker or makers let us know that in one of these scenes it is daytime, while in the other it is night. The designs just POP! And then the simple top and bottom frame parts just finish it out with that distinctive red hue. They are a visual feast!
The painted wooden parts measure 10" across and the tapestries' total length is 12"
