1787 Figure Right, NOVA EBORAC, NGC, VF Details, Environmental damage. The NGC label of environmental damage seems to be light surface porosity, common to a large part of early copper of all types. The color is medium to dark brown, with the raised, higher surfaces being the lighter colors for the most part. The obverse shows the right facing bust with a wreath, and a small part of military uniform at the shoulder and chest. The obverse legend shows "NOVA EBORAC", Latin for "NEW YORK". The reverse shows a lady seated, to the right. In her right hand she holds a staff with a freedman's cap at the top. In her left hand, she holds a laurel sprig. At her right, a shield is leaning against where she is seated. The legend around the upper border shows "VIRT. ET LIB." The date is at the bottom center. The date was struck very near the edge of the blank so that it is weaker struck.
