Take your Game Boy Colour restoration to the next level with the custom-built, ultra-efficient CleanPower — a power regulator designed in-house by RetroSix.
The CleanPower replaces the original power regulator PCB of the Game Boy Colour with a modern, smooth, and healthy power supply.
With the introduction of IPS mods, audio mods, and other power-hungry modifications, the original regulator is heavily over-strained and can fail over time or prevent the console from powering on at all.
The CleanPower by RetroSix addresses all of these issues, providing a clean, stable, and efficient 5V supply to keep your console running at its best for years to come.
To install, see the images. Simply desolder the old power regulator and solder the CleanPower in its place.
The kit includes a power capacitor that is optional but highly recommended if you are modding the console. Simply replace the original 100µF capacitor with the larger capacitor provided. This prevents reboots under high current load from amps and screens.
The CleanPower accepts an input voltage (VIN) of 2.5V to 12V, giving modders a much wider range — ideal for 2S LiPo battery installs.
If using the original screen, keep the original regulator installed and ideally cut the 5V output pin. If using any modern screen, remove the old regulator completely.
NOTE: The CleanPower only supports modern screens and does not provide the voltages required for the original screen. If you want to use the original screen, leave the original regulator in place and cut the top left pin on it (when viewing the console from the rear with the regulator in the bottom right corner). The old regulator will then supply the LCD voltages, while the CleanPower supplies the bulk system power for IPS and amp mods.
