On
March 23, 2021 we lost one of the guiding lights of the Hot Wheels
design team. Ryu Asada was infectiously positive, genuinely kind, and
lit up every room he entered. His creations for Hot Wheels collectors
are some of the finest we’ve ever cast, and he inspires us to this very
day.
His bright and loving soul was
represented in his beloved bright yellow Honda S2000 that he drove
almost every day. In his honor, we recreated it in 1:64 scale for fans
of Ryu Asada and Hot Wheels.
Through this car and the specially designed package, Ryu Asada’s memory will live forever.

Last
year, we lost one of the greatest designers in Hot Wheels history – Ryu
Asada. To honor the memory of this legendary designer and wonderful
person, we are proud to release this 1:64 scale Honda S2000 based on his
personal car that he loved and drove. Since joining Mattel in 2004, Ryu
Asada was a driving force behind many of our favorite cars. Known for
his attention to detail and wry smile, Ryu showed his heart and his
talent in every design he created. To celebrate Ryu and his legacy, we
wanted to create an instant Hot Wheels classic that pays homage to his
own Honda S2000. This piece features Spectraflame Yellow paint,
smoke-tinted windows, detailed head and tail lamps, and a special
license plate. There’s also a memorial illustration that perfectly
depicts our dear friend and colleague.
