801nm 650W CW Laser Diode Stack w/FAC, Water Cooled nLight Cascades

Item Description

Water cooled, 650 watt CW, 801nm laser diode stack with FAC lenses. These modules contain a vertical stack of 7 100W water cooled 1cm wide bars, each with a fast axis correction (FAC) lens. The lenses collimate the fast axis so the output from the array is 7 stripes in a 10mm x 13mm area. These modules require cooling water and will be destroyed instantly if powered without flowing coolant. The specifications call for de-ionized (i.e non conductive) water and a 20um particle filter. We test these with clean, fresh distilled water with no problems. These are nLight Cascades series part number VSA7-650-0801-F or the II-VI / Oclaro equivalent Monsoon series part number MMO-801-650L. Originally made for use in Laserscope / AMS Greenlight HPS / XPS laser systems. These are intentionally off the peak absorption of 808nm in order to allow the pump light to be absorbed over the entire length of an end-pumped rod. Also great for materials processing such as heat treatment and welding with appropriate focusing optics.

We individually test each unit here so we can guarantee good water flow and electrical performance. Our testing is limited to 42.5A by the laser diode driver we're using. These typically produce ~150W at 42.5A. Note that the wavelength is closer to 795nm when under-driven. The spectral width is typically less than 4nm FWHM.

Clean cooling water is extremely important. Each diode bar has a micro-channel array for coolant flow directly below the die. If the micro-channels get blocked with particles, water flow will decrease and the module will rapidly overheat. When run at full power, the electrical draw is 114A @ 14.7V = 1676 watts. Less the 700W optical output leaves 976 watts of heat to dissipate. You'll need a chiller with a bare minimum 1000W cooling capacity and rated for at least 1.75 liters / minute flow.

We ship these on a special bracket that protects the lenses during handling. We have these module without FAC lenses in our store which are better suited for IR illumination.

Note that these, like all the electrical components we sell, are listed with no returns allowed. They are individually tested and shipped in anti-static materials so we know they will arrive in good working condition. Laser diodes can be damaged by static electricity, reverse polarity, over-temperature, over-current, none of which is detectable without fully re-testing the unit. We will accept returns for laser diodes which are still in our original, sealed packaging. Once electrical components are opened, we can't accept returns.
