EXTREMELY RARE!!! Offered here is a vintage STAR WARS COLORING POSTER from 1977. Never officially published, this B&W coloring poster measures 15” x 22” and is in EXCELLENT condition. This SUPER RARE Star Wars item is ONLY for sale on this listing!

THE STORY: Late in 1976, artist Frank Cirocco was contracted by OPEN DOOR ENTERPRISES (based in San Jose, CA) to do another in a series of PEN-A-POSTER COLORING KITS for the Bay Area company. He had done a few others, including a STAR TREK Coloring Poster (see photos). This assignment was for a new science fiction movie that had not yet been released, called STAR WARS. Assuming they would acquire the licensing rights just as they had for the Star Trek poster, the company commissioned Frank to design the poster using promotional photos from the movie. As you can see, they were so confident; they even had him use the STAR WARS logo prominently in the design.

The problem? Open Door Enterprises was unable to secure the licensing, so they had to cancel the publication of the product. Although disappointed, Frank was paid a “kill fee” for his work and was able to retain the original art. The movie premiered and made history. With the success of the film, Frank eventually decided to sell the artwork to make up for some of the lost income of the cancelled project. Later that same year, he ran across a vendor at a comic convention selling his Star Wars poster. His signature had been removed from the poster. Frank explained the situation to the dealer who stated that he did not print the posters and had no contact information as to who did. Frank was given a handful of the unlicensed posters by the vendor at that time. This poster has been stored in a flat file since 1977 and is truly one of the earliest and rarest pieces of Star Wars memorabilia. VERY FEW OF THESE EXIST!!!
