Many immigrants lived in the Lower East Side in 1900. Mulberry Street was one of the popular markets. This color image began as a high-resolution scan of a photochrom. Photochroms were an early method for creating fine color prints from black and white photographs. They were meticulously produced by experts using as many as 14 lithographic stones and were very high quality. You will receive an 8-inch by 10-inch (8x10) print from this image that will ship the next business day after you pay. Other print sizes are also available, sold separately. This improved print was made new. For best color and clarity, it was made in a photo lab. We took great care to preserve the sharpness and old look while removing scratches, spots, and other damage that would make it less viewable. We repaired imperfections and improved tonal values. 

Why buy this photo:  This print would be a good conversation starter in a restaurant, waiting room, lobby, office, classroom, library, or museum. Or, it would make a nice gift for someone who has roots here. It can be resold in a store (see "Wholesale lots" below). Tone:  Your print will be in color (from the photochrom). Sepia-tone is available, listed separately. Sepia is the color of old prints today, caused by acid in the old paper. Many people prefer the warm sepia tones over cold black and white. Our sepia print is on acid-free paper, but looks old. Black and white is also available, sold separately. Finish:  This print has a luster finish that reduces glare. Glossy is available, listed separately. Click "Ask a question" or Contact seller" to ask how to purchase glossy finish.

Border:  This print has a minimum border. This means that there may be some white edges (less than 1/4 inch wide) outside the image so that you can display the maximum amount of the image in typical devices that hide the edges of the print.

Quality:  We select the highest-quality originals we can find and carefully restore and improve them. Photochroms do not meet today’s high standards for color prints due to the limitations of the printing methods used in those days, and the effects of age. But we improve them as much as we can while preserving the old look. Then we process them using modern archival methods so they can be affordable and last for many years.

Packaging:  We ship 8x10 prints flat with a stiff board to prevent folding, in a sturdy envelope. 

Shipping time:  Your 8x10 print will ship the next business day after we receive your payment. If you purchase additional eBay items from quaintcards to ship together, an extra day or two may also be required. The time required by the postal services to deliver your package depends on shipping method, Customs requirements, weather, holidays, and other factors beyond our control.

Shipping cost:  This item is sold with packaging materials and handling included in the price. Domestic postage is also included. For destinations outside the U.S.A., buyer pays actual postage.
