Thomastik-Infeld – Innovation Rooted in Viennese Tradition

Founded in 1919 in Vienna, Austria, Thomastik-Infeld has been at the forefront of string-making innovation for over a century. The company was established by Dr. Franz Thomastik, a violin maker, and Otto Infeld, an engineer—two pioneers who combined deep musical understanding with technical precision to revolutionize the world of bowed string instruments.

Thomastik-Infeld introduced some of the earliest steel-core and synthetic-core strings, setting new standards for tone stability, durability, and projection. Their commitment to innovation and craftsmanship continues to this day, with all strings engineered and handmade in Vienna.

Renowned lines like Dominant, Peter Infeld, Rondo, Vision, and Infeld Red & Blue are used by soloists, symphony players, educators, and students around the globe. Every string reflects Thomastik-Infeld’s core values: sound excellence, precision manufacturing, and musical integrity.
