SOME INTERESTING INFORMATION –

PYREX – Friendship Pattern -

This pattern - FRIENDSHIP - was released in 1971 and was available until 1974. This FRIENDSHIP pattern is reflective of Pennsylvania Folk Art, created by the artist Gregory Mirow - and is VIBRANT, Whimsical, and fun. This pattern was designed in keeping with the decorating trend towards country-living.

There were several items released in the FRIENDSHIP Pattern - some pieces of some sets were plain solid colours - RED, ORANGE - some had fired-on graphics. The Graphics depicted symmetrical stylized BIRDS & FLOWERS in RED & ORANGE.

There was also a Promotional Pattern released in 1971 - called Penn Dutch - which was very similar to this FRIENDSHIP PATTERN, but more dense in the graphics' floral detailing.

There were two sizes of Oval Cinderella Casseroles released in the Friendship Pattern - Small - 043, 1 1/2-QT ORANGE-Base, 943 LidLarge - 045, 2-1/2-QT RED-Base, 945 Lid

There was an Oval Divided Casserole Dish released in the Friendship Pattern - 063, (1 1/2-QT) 1-QT RED-Base, 945 Lid

The crystal-clear lids originally released with these  items were phased out in 1972, replaced by opal-white milk-glass lids. ALL LIDS for the Friendship Pattern had applied, fired on Graphics - a circle of red & orange birds & flowers.

PYREX - OVAL LIDDED (Cinderella) CASSEROLE Dishes -040, 940-Series

Two sizes of Lidded 940/040-Series Oval Casseroles were ever available – small 043/943C and large 045/945C – released in 1956, available until 1979.

053 – Oval Open Baker -

An 053 1.5 QT Oval Baker (Open Baker) was available, sold with NO LID, although was designed so that the 945C fit, and some sets were sold with such a lid. This Open Bakers was released in 1958 – this 053-shape dish was available until ~1963.

963, 063, 1063 – Oval Divided Serving Dish w Matched Lid -

963 (063 or 1063) 1 OR 1.5 QT Divided Oval Casserole Dish was available, which the 945C lid would also fit. These Divided Dishes were released in 1958 – the 063 was discontinued in 1976; the 1063 was discontinued in 1967. Matching divided clear Lids were available early on BUT later came with the same un-divided 945-C Lid – decorated opal Lids were never available divided.

The marked capacity of these Divided Dishes was initially 1 ½ Quarts BUT later changed to 1 QT – with NO physical change to the dish itself.

Initially these Divided Dishes had flat bottoms matching the 053-dish base-molds BUT the molds were later changed to have a crease-indent matching the divider location on the interior surface.

The 1063 (released ~1960) is a different form than the 063 Divided Dish – white and Promo Bluebell, curved sides, curved wide handles - but the 945 lid fits reasonably well since no lid was manufactured for the 1063, specifically.

PYREX - Flat-top Utility-Lid – 945-C 943-C -

The 945 Lid (945-C) was designed to fit the matching 045, 2 1/2 QT Oval Casserole Dish053 1 1/2 QT Oval Open Baker (sold without a Lid but this 945-C was available for those who wanted one) AND the 063, 1 1/2 QT Divided Casserole Dish. A variety of these casseroles (many were patterned or were solid-coloured milk-glass) were made which came with a plain, clear Lid.

The 943 Lid (943-C) was designed to fit the matching 043, 1 ½ QT Oval Casserole Dish.

THE BEAUTY of the flat-top utility lid is that it was designed with MULTI-PURPOSE - to serve as an elegant, fitted lid; to stand alone to be used as a baking dish; to serve as a trivet as well.
