Description of item: |
This
original Whitefriars metal stamp Plate is in excellent condition.
The date that this Hallmark Stamp was produced (1943-1965), is currently speculative, and solely based on information ascertained by the logo design of the Monk itself, the biro mark from another within the collection, and that of known manufacturing processes to machine stencil imagery accurately into metals. Amendment: 18/09/2021 I found reference to the Hallmark's usage in the July 1st 1956 and 1960s Whitefriars catalogues. As pictured above. Previous thoughts: My knowledge of this latter industry is extremely limited. It is fair to say that the Hallmark could have been produced even earlier, spanning the dates from early 1850- to around 1970, as unlike the other Wooden Hallmark stamps previously sold from this collection, which were made from copper, this series of Hallmarks appears to be made from steel with a slightly high iron mix. Additionally, the image of the Monk is framed by a rounded cartouche, which fits with “Egyptomania” of late 1988-1930. This however, would need to be ratified by an expert. I know Whitefriars used impression stamps in the early 19th century up until 1923, in associations with Wedgwood (To use as an example here), although this process was generally used to Hallmark ceramic goods Unlike the other Wooden Hallmark stamps previously sold from this collection, this image of the Monk is framed by a rounded cartouche. This Hallmark stamp would have been used for internal and external communications; potentially used to mark certain glass products within the range as authentic. Certainly, an ephemeral object, rather than an object of consistent usage; as I have yet to determine an exact use for this stamp. Likewise, I have been unable to find any specific examples of its use within glass wear. I can therefore only assume it was an office-based item, or a potential manufacturing concept debunked due to technicalities of the process. There are signs of ink, though as previously stated, being unfamiliar with the intricate processes of glass making, this could equally be a finishing chemical used to protect the Hallmark on application to molten glass. Certainly, an object of significant historical value and interest to those Whitefriars aficionados out there. 1 of 3 known to be in existence. Extremely rare. |

Payment: |
Via eBay’s various payment system only. If you wish to pick up an item, (collection), please inform me of this decision before the auction ends. Likewise, please do not offer alternative payments, such as Bitcoin, Amazon Vouchers, or exchanges of goods for items. I got children to feed and bills to pay, just like you. |

If you have been successful in winning an auction, I would expect payment within a reasonable amount of time of your successful bid. Generally, within 24hrs 48hrs for weekends. However, if you are waiting on further auctions to finish, I would appreciate a quick email notifying me of your intentions. Non-payment on items that fall outside eBay’s deadline for payment, will be canceled. No ifs, buts, or coconuts. Thems the rules!! Simple. |

Postage / Shipping: |
A great deal of time and consideration has gone into preserving and maintaining collections. If and when an item is sold on, the same care and attention will be adhered. It is important to me that whatever you buy arrives to you in the best of conditions; as depicted in the images and as described in each case. I will make every effort to ensure that this happens. I will NOT just stick a stamp on it and hope for the best. |

|
P&P Price: |
Postage costs will always be fair and within reason. They are calculated on the size weight and value of item/s within the parcel. This is based on current UK Post Office prices. The price stated includes purchasing specialist packaging materials, tape, boxes, ink for the printer, fuel costs, eBay’s fees and VAT. I am an independent trader not a multi-million-pound industry, I cannot afford to absorb these costs into my selling. Please do not haggle about the price. You don’t stand at the checkout haggling the cost of your weekly shopping, or fuel prices, so please don’t assume you can do this here, as I will just ignore you and politely request you go elsewhere. |

|
