LOTERIA INFO
A traditional game of chance, lotería—the Spanish word for lottery—is often referred to as Mexican bingo, where illustrated cards depicting the Mexican aesthetic replace bingo balls. Latin and Hispanic communities have been playing this game for hundreds of years, but in the past decade, it has become increasingly visible in the United States.Originating in Italy in the 15th century, Lotería first moved to Spain before reaching Mexico in 1769.  A designated card announcer randomly pulls colorfully illustrated cards like “La Luna,” or “El Arbol”
Today, Lotería’s  folkloric iconic imagery is  a source of pride and celebration for Mexican culture.
