Roman Imperial sestertius of Commodus, 177-192 AD, 32 mm, 27.2 gms, Sear-5771, R.I.C. 500. This piece is from the period as sole emperor, 180-192 AD. The obverse shows laureate head of Commodus to the right, The obverse legend is "M. COMMODVS ANT. P. FELIX AVG BRIT". The reverse shows the three Monetae standing side by side, facing left, each holding scales and cornucopiae. The reverse legend is "P.M. TRP. XII IMP VIII COS V PP". In exergue is "MON AVG S C ". Still showing strong portrait details in hair, beard, and facial features. Both sides are mostly dark brown in color with some lighter shades of toned brass on the highest areas.
