DESCRIPTION: Here is a late 19th early 20th century German (Plaue Thuringia) Schierholz & Sons porcelain 0.5 Litre character stein in the form of a monkey known as the "Drunken Monkey". The stein is peach coloured and is holding his own stein in his crossed over arms with a drunken expression on his face and has his tail caught under his belt. The monkey head cover is pewter mounted and has a pewter thumb rest. To the inside of the stein it has a black painted fill line with 0.5 L to the right. Marked to the base with a blue painted crosshatch over a green printed Musterschutz (which means protected under German law) with a red painted 1.51 under the tail. mark dates it between 1886 to 1907.

SIZE: The stein measures 7 1/2 inches high and 6 inches at widest point. Weighs 668 g before packing.

CONDITION: The stein that the monkey is holding has three quarters of the lid missing and a minute chip to the base both as in picture 11. The inside of the pewter mount has a solder repair as in picture 9 and a small solder where the thumb rest meet the pewter mount as in picture 10. The pewter thumb rest is a little loose on the handle so there is some play to the lid. Otherwise in good condition.
