MORE HISTORIC FACTS:

• Gorgeous symbolic artful scenes don’t compare to the stand alone white background cards of today since the artwork is woven into an illustrated image.

• The pips must retain their traditional position and shape, as the suit symbols are integrated so seamlessly into the illustrations.

• Transformation decks enjoyed a relatively brief history as the first cards appeared in 1801, the first deck in 1804, and then merely 50 different styles through 70 decks as the years went by. In the early 1900s, the trend eventually faded away, making decks like these highly sought after TODAY!

• It took until 1833 for this first Tranny designed deck to get printed in the United States. Charles Bartlett was the designer, though he had help; his design borrowed heavily from the European decks of the time. The primary story told on European tranny decks was the story of Beatrice, or The Fracas.The original design was by Rudolph Ackermann, and could be found printed in an English magazine in 1818-1819.
