DESCRIPTION: Here is an early to 19th century cup and saucer in the Adelaide shape and having a French loop handle. Decorated on a cobalt blue ground and hand painted in enamels to the inside of the cup and the well of the saucer with birds in a rural setting. To the outside of the birds it has panels of colouful flowers and gilt decoration including dotted hatching. Each marked to the base with a red painted pattern number 3178 with the cup pattern number having an x below probably for the decorator and the saucer also having four dots in a square shape. Dates to circa 1830 to 1840 or possibly slightly earlier. After having research this cup and saucer the closest i have come to it is a H & R Daniels but not totally sure, or another candidate could be Minton. Either way a very nice example.

SIZE: The cup measures 2 inches to the top of the handle and 4 inches in diameter. The saucer measures 5 5/8 inches in diameter and 1 inch high. Weighs 281 g before packing.

CONDITION: The cup and saucer both have very minor ware to the top rims, otherwise they are in very good condition and both ring when tapped.
