Up for sale is this Passaic, New Jersey, Charter #12205, $20.00 1902 Plain Back.  Fr. #661, with treasury signatures of Harley V. Speelman as Register of the Treasury and Frank White as Treasurer of The United States.  This note exhibits strong legible stamped bank signatures of George T. Kenter as cashier of the bank, and James B. Ackerson as Bank President. 

“Passaic National Bank and Trust Company, Passaic, New Jersey” was organized in May of 1922. The bank issued a total of $14,769,080.00 in National Currency from 1922 until July of 1935 when National Banknote Currency printing ended.  The total issue of Large Size notes was 685,488 banknotes.  There were four National Banks that issued large size National Currency in Passaic.  This was the most common of those four banks.

The note is cut close just touching the design framework at the top margin to the right.  The note has some lite dirt on both sides from years of circulation, but I do not see any rips, tears or pinholes in this note.  Just good honest wear!  I grade this note as a solid Very Fine, but you look at the scans and judge the grade for yourself before bidding.

The Kelly Census shows 82 large size notes reported on this bank.  There are 53 - $10’s and 29 - $20’s reported.  Of the 29 - $20.00 Series 1902 Plain Backs Reported, only one note is nicer, an XF, and there are 2 other Very Fines besides this note.  The other 26 notes reported are all in Fine or lower condition.  That makes this one of the nicest surviving examples of a $20.00 large size note from this Banking Institution!  This note has already been reported to that Census.

This note would make a fine addition to any New Jersey National Banknote collection!  This bank is located in Passaic County, so it should appeal to people collecting National Banknotes from that and the surrounding counties.  Don’t let this note get away!
