This is an L.L. Bean Cork Body Working Blue Bill Drake Decoy.  It has a wooden head attached to a swivel which allows it to turn.  The cork body is laminated to a pine board on the underneath which gives the soft cork extra strength.  The decoy is in wonderful used condition with most of the paint intact but places where the paint is missing or faded, as would be expected for a very old working decoy.  The decoy has glass eyes and a lead anchor weight is still attached to a string which is tied to an eye on the swivel underneath.  The decoy measures 12.5 inches long, 6.25 inches wide, 5.25 inches tall, and weighs one pound, 4 ounces.

Part of its story is that in 1940 L.L. Bean went hunting with one of his Company's employees named George Soule.  Mr. Soule was quite critical of the decoys L.L. brought along, basically saying, "Hell. I can make a much better decoy than that."  And he did.  This decoy is one of the George Soule designed decoys and L.L. Bean sold hundreds, if not thousands of them.  We have a few others including a pair of Mallards currently being offered but they are not common.  We can ship it within the U.S. for $10.00 or less and accept returns for any reason within 30 days.
