For all avid collectors of McKee - GLASBAKE ... this iconic brand was developed in 1917, with changes in name over the years: GLASBAKE Ovenware 1917-53; GLASBAKE by McKee a division of Thatcher 1951-61; GLASBAKE by Jeannette 1961-83, when it closed.

Offered here is a - Vintage 1940's-50's McKee-GLASBAKE FOR WESTINGHOUSE - COMPLETE, Crystal-Clear, Lidded Oven-to-Refrigerator-Dish - in MOST-Excellent - Barely-Gently-Used Condition.

All glass surfaces are SUPER, HIGHLY-GLOSSY, shiny and clean - inside & out.

Dish -

The Dish-design is excellent - the horizontal fin shaped handles at either end are subtle - just there to get fingertips beneath - saving space in your fridge or oven. The Dish is deep - resembling a loaf pan - which this item was originally designed as. The base has an embossed orange-peel texture and embossed strips - both aid in cooling - as often found on GLASBAKE items.

Embossed on the Dish's smooth disc-button is a "stippled, underlined, encircled "W"" - identifying this as for WESTINGHOUSE.

Lid -

The crystal-clear high-domed Lid is also designed well. At the top of the high dome upper surface is a large fin-like handle, which runs the length of the lid. The Lid has an orange-peel textured central surface, again GLASBAKE-like.

The handle is smooth and embossed with an underlined, encircled "W", matching the base.

This Lidded Refrigerator Dish measures - 8 1/4" x 4 5/8" - upper inner edge of the dish; 9 1/8" x 5 1/4" - outer edges, max dimensions; 3 1/2" in height, 5 1/2" with the lid on; 7 1/2" x 4" across the base.

Q1 - Straw-Yellow Cast - Lid & Dish

There are NO chips, cracks; NO stains, rubs, scratches, nor hazing - just a tiny bit of flea bites on the upper inner edge of the lid, a tiny broken surface air bubble - looks barely-to-unused. The glass is straw-yellow in colour – Base and Lid.

Q2  - Straw-Yellow Cast - Dish; Ice-Blue - Lid

There are a few small chips and some flea-bites on the upper inner rim of the Dish, some haziness within the glass, some fine rubs and scratches form light use and cleaning. The Lid has a tiny flea-bite on the inner edge of the inner rim - looks gently-used. The glass is straw-yellow in colour for the Base, this Lid has an ice-blue cast.

SOME INTERESTING INFORMATION –

Un-Labelled Glassware –

Many well-known, VINTAGE-ERA, glassmakers - such as CORNING-PYREX; McKee-GLASBAKE; ANCHOR-HOCKING FIRE-KING - supplied many Brand-Name Companies with specialty glass-ware items to be given away as PROMOTIONAL ITEMS along with purchases of their main-stream production items. Often the suppliers did not apply their own logos - often left unmarked OR marked with the Brand-Name Co's LOGO. Such is the case with the item described in this listing.

McKee–GLASBAKE - Oven-Refrigerator Dishes -

An early release Lidded Loaf-Pan which doubled as a Lidded Refrigerator Dish was released in the 1920's or so - MPN 805. The form of this Lidded Dish was deep and angular; the Lid was angular with a knob-style handle.

COMPLETE Lidded Oven-Refrigerator Dishes (they came in all-clear or milk-glass based) were given-away to WESTINGHOUSE customers with the purchase of their refrigerators and kitchen ranges (stoves/ovens), for a period – 1940’s-50's.
