Mad River’s new UV steelie beads has been designed so that when a UV light is put to the bead, they will show the true UV color of that bead.  Consequently, depending on water depths and clarity of water, then you have to decide which beads will work better based on the bead's UV light that it emits.

Molecules in the UV steelie bead gain energy on contact with UV light and then release the energy in the form of visible light. This glow is what some fish look for when searching for food.

For example, you may have a bead that looks yellow or tangerine in color, but when subjected to a UV light, it will glow a bright flourescent yellow.
