This front page of the Minneapolis Morning Tribune of February 1, 1917 has been folded with family papers for many years.  It is yellowed and fragile but virtually all of the page is present.  It can be preserved by professional attention and the deterioration halted.  We hope the buyer will have this is done.

The paper announces the beginning of United States involvement in World War One.  All but a small fraction of the text can be read.  The reverse of the front page continues with some information on the war, but mostly it tells about local happenings and shows ads.

We are putting this paper up for auction despite its fragile condition.  It is a rare piece of contemporary documentation of what was to be a terrible and bloody episode in Western history and a precursor of World War Two.
